Ruby, an incredibly sweet and beautiful little girl, has been with our rescue group for a year now. We wonder why she has not found her fur-ever home... she is delightful!
Ruby is a four-year-old female, spayed, Pittie mix rescued through our Training Wheels Program. She spent her entire life on the end of a short tie out, living outside, no matter the weather. Despite all that Ruby has been through, she is an amazing girl. Sweet, gentle and snuggly. She is yearning for a forever home, a yard to romp in, and kids to play with and a family to love. No more chains, no more lonely nights outside in the cold, no more being hungry.
Right now, we do not have any available foster homes for Ruby. She has been living in boarding on and off for quite some time. We ask of you... can you open your home or heart to Ruby? Does some one you know need a snuggly girl to call their own? If not, can you help us to raise funds so that Ruby can go to an interactive doggie daycare program where she will never be lonely?
We only want the best for this girl. She is wonderful. Look at those beautiful brown eyes!
Please, spread the word and help us to help Ruby. PS - she would prefer to be the only pet in the housebold.
No donation is too small. We appreciate every dollar. And so do our animals in need.

My name is Ruby. I am the one that is chocolate and white (on the left). The other picture is of my friend named Storm, she is a blue brindle.
I met my angel rescuers years ago when I was only 6 months old. I am now about 4. I was living outside my entire life tied most of the time to a stair railing. I met rescuers upon my early years who provided me and my caretaker with dogfood and a doghouse. They also gave me a proper cable tie so I didn't have to wear a thick chain around my neck. Boy that was a relief, there were days my head felt so heavy that I just stayed lying down. Some days my chain was wrapped and twisted so many ways that I only had a couple of feet or less to move around!
I tried to keep my area clean but with little movement that was a challenge. I looked forward to these rescuers visiting me every month with food and fresh water. They would even clean my area up and always made sure my collar wasnt too tight. I always heard them trying to talk to my caretaker about taking me from my home. I never knew what that meant or why they would ask this of her.
The passing summers were long but the cold bitter winters were even longer. I never thought much about life and thought that trying to survive was it. It was hard seeing the same ground and trees every day. Nothing ever seemed to change. I longed for running and following my owner into her "doghouse" everynight. Hers was much nicer than mine. I always asked her if we could trade just for one night but she never understood me and would disappear into her house and I would then fall asleep. I would dream of these people, these rescue people that would come with all this food and toys and could never understand when they pulled away in their cars I would scream out to them,"Wait, wait...come back, why are you leaving!" For some reason they didn't stop and the hours and days would pass. Each month this would happen and as sad as I was seeing them leave, it was the best few minutes of my life every month.
As the years went on I began to give up hope. Any glance I had at a person was the highlight of my day. Just recently Storm arrived and she was chained about 20 feet from me. "Oh boy," I said to myself, "a friend." I couldn't play with her though because we couldn't reach each other but what joy I had just seeing her. It gave me something to do. I told her all about my rescue friends and that they visit me monthly. She didn't quite get the idea but she was just like me and was looking forward to seeing them.
As the days passed I knew it was getting closer to the day that they would come back. Finally, I heard their van from around the corner and began to call out to them. As they parked in front my tail wagged faster and faster and so did Storm's. But sadly, they walked right by me and went inside my caretaker's house. They were not in there long but it felt like forever. Storm was so excited that she started spinning around and jumping trying to get their attention before they would leave. They came out of the house and started walking back to the van. My heart stopped. How could they forget about me? I am right here, same place I always am. They opened the van doors and I almost started to cry. As I watched them they started opening the back door to the van and smiled as they started aproaching me. The walk over to the base of my feet felt like forever but they finally reached. But this time with no food, no water and no treats. Instead, they brought me something far more then I could ever imagine....
...they brought me FREEDOM.
Storm and I were both taken on leash and put in carriers in the back of this cozy warm van. This day, January 15, 2011, will be forever in my mind. I am not sure what the days ahead bring but I can only hope from here on out that Storm and I are safe now, never to be cold or hungary again.
Love, your fur-riend, RUBY

My name is Brooke and I am Ruby's Rescuer. I am trying to complete this story with a happy ending but my rescue group has no available foster home for her or Storm. If you or anyone you know could open your heart to either Storm or Ruby please call me. I have not told Ruby or her friend that we have no where for them to go but have bought myself just a little bit of time in boarding for them.
PLEASE I beg of you to consider one of these dogs. We will provide you with all medical care, food, and crate if you can foster for us.
Thanks for reading Ruby's story and hope that it becomes a fairytale ending.
If you would consider it one of these dogs as a short term foster we would have your family and pets meet either Ruby or Storm. We would also love it if you could send us donations to help pay for their boarding to buy us some more time before they go into the pound (a death sentence for these 2 dogs). Brooke 516-864-3520
Ruby- 4 year old. pit mix about 35 pounds. She is very small. She seems good with other dogs and adores people.
Storm- 1 year old. pit mix about 60 pounds. She is a beauty. She also seems to like other dogs and just like Ruby adores people.
Here are 2 videos of STORM
Thank you to all of you who have donated for Ruby & Storm's boarding. It has bought us some time, but still not enough to save these girls! Please help us to find a temporary foster home or an adoptive family (fur-ever home!) for them. Again, thank you so much. We truly appreciate all of you helping us out. We couldn't do it without your help and support and donations that are desperately needed.
A special thank you to Benni from Bully Breed Rescue who donated $100.00 through paypal to pay for boarding for these 2 dogs for another couple of days.
Update on the girls: Storm did GREAT with the other dog (GG). She loves her stuffies, too! Ruby walked with her stuffie the whole time on her walk with GG the dog... and she was OK with her, but would do best in a home with out other animals. She's a bit of a brat and would like to be Queen Bee of her new home.
Update January 25, 2011 -
Thanks to many for all donations. For Our Friends Animal Rescue is going to meet Storm on Sunday and may decide to take her. Storm is looking forward to meeting them and she is so happy that people are there to help. A specialthanks to this rescue group for offering to help by taking Storm into their Rescue. We will update you all after Sunday to see if Storm is off to her next journey to complete her fairytale ending. Thanks, Brooke
Update February 19, 2011 -
FOR OUR FRIENDS ANIMAL RESCUE has committed to taking Storm so that she has a chance to be adopted out of their Rescue group. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! You can see Storm on www.petfinder.com and if interested in her you may call them to schedule a appointment. STORM WAS RENAMED TO DOLLY.
Ruby is still with us and being boarded because we still have no foster homes available. Thanks to every ones generous donations we have the ability to keep her there. After some time with Ruby boarding we have noticed her favoring her hind leg. A vet examined her and discovered a partially torn cruciate. Ruby is now looking at a leg surgery :( We continue to need your help! Please make a donation to help us absorb the cost of her upcoming surgery. I will be updating you guys periodically. You may call us at any time for questions about Ruby.
We ask that you do not forget about these two dogs. We have seen them half way, Storm now Dolly is still awaiting her forever home and Ruby must undergo some trials and tribulations and we must see them through. We still need your help so remember them and lets take them all the way home!!!
Thank you for ALL your help. If you are reading this, and keeping yourself current on their story then you are helping them....spread the word and Thank You for your support. --Brooke
